FENCE BUYING GUIDE

Be sure to deal with a qualified and insured contractor.  Check each company with the Better Business Bureau.  This can save several problems later.  Try to compare your proposals  equally to insure you are getting what you are paying for.

Basic items to check:

  • Framework - Is it tube or pipe?
  • Fabric -
    Is it:
    • 11  1/2 Gage
    • 11 Gage
    • 9 Gage
  • Galvanized Aluminum, Vinyl or Aluminum

Now that you have compared your materials, check installation procedure.
  • How deep are the foundation?  They should be 36" deep below frost line
  • How wide are the foundations?
    • Tube 6" minimum width
    • Pipe 8 " minimum width

If the post is set short on bottom of foundation approximately 4" to 6"  tube is 6" to seal it  in concrete to not allow ground moisture.  Pipe 3" to enter inside of post to prevent premature rust. When using tube for your fence framework it is very important that the installation is proper to ensure you get the full life capacity of the product.  Improper installation can cut the life span in half.
